A new way to integrate Shopify apps
Shopify has announced two new features that allow merchants to integrate apps into key Shopify admin pages more seamlessly.
These features are called extensions for administration actions and blocks.
Extensions for actions
Action extensions allow apps to create transactional workflows that appear as modals on the Orders, Products, and Customers pages in Shopify Admin. Giving merchants access to key app features without having to switch context can dramatically improve the usability of your app, leading to increased merchant satisfaction and loyalty.
Block Extensions
Block extensions allow us as developers to add new content blocks to Shopify admin pages. These blocks can be useful for displaying information or adding functionality to your pages.
How Admin Actions and Blocks Extensions Work
Both features are API-based and can be created using the Shopify CLI. Action extensions appear as modals above admin pages, while block extensions appear as content blocks within pages.
Benefits of Extensions for Actions and Administration Blocks
Extensions for administrative actions and blocks offer a number of benefits, including:
- Improve user experience: Action and block extensions can allow developers to integrate their apps more seamlessly into Shopify admin pages. This makes it easier for merchants to find and use app features.
- Sales are increasing: Action and block extensions can be used to add new features to your Shopify admin pages. These features can be used to increase sales or improve customer experience.
- Time saving: Action and block extensions can be used to automate repetitive tasks. This allows merchants to save time and focus on more important tasks.
Ultimately, the admin action and block extensions are powerful new features that allow us to integrate our apps, like our Hoculus Store Locator found in the platform’s app store , into Shopify’s admin pages more seamlessly.
