A new way to integrate Shopify apps

Shopify has announced two new features that allow merchants to integrate apps into key Shopify admin pages more seamlessly.

These features are called extensions for administration actions and blocks.

Extensions for actions

Action extensions allow apps to create transactional workflows that appear as modals on the Orders, Products, and Customers pages in Shopify Admin. Giving merchants access to key app features without having to switch context can dramatically improve the usability of your app, leading to increased merchant satisfaction and loyalty.

Both features are API-based and can be created using the Shopify CLI. Action extensions appear as modals above admin pages, while block extensions appear as content blocks within pages.
